Last night we went to a fund raiser for Boy Scouts.  The boys served a spaghetti dinner and then cleaned up after the adults.

After the dinner, an auction was held.  The boys, including my son, offered service certificates for babysitting, snow removal, and yard work and many of the people in the area donated valuable items and services to be auctioned.  The proceeds from the dinner and the auction will help to fund the Boy Scout camping trips.  I was amazed at the generosity of the donations and large amounts of money people were bidding on the goods and services.

The auction was such a great experience for my children.  The exposure to adult activities such as this is so valuable for growth and expanding their breadth of knowledge.  My son expressed just how much fun he had on our way home.  My daughter actually bid on and won a couple of items, which she paid for with her own money.

That was a really fun experience for my kids.

One Response to “Boy Scout Auction”

  1. What a wonderful evening! I hope you took pictures. My son had wonderful experiences with boy scouting. He is an eagle scout, spent five years in the army, and now it working on his college degree in architecture. He did so many neat things in the boy scouts he could have never done on his own. He crawled through muddy caves (slept in one), toured a decommissioned ship in Texas, went to the boy scout Jamboree in Virginia with about 10,000 other scouts, went to D.C., oh- I can’t remember it all. You know the difference between a boy scout and an army soldier? The boy scouts have chaperones. My son told me that one after the jamboree.

I love your site! The charities link idea is wonderful. Let us know how it works – maybe others will follow suit.

I’ll be back! Keep up the good blogging!
